Foresyte Equestrian Centre offers first aid courses for all our grooms and work riders
Foresyte Equestrian Centre identified the local Umthombomuhle School in Peacevale, near Hammarsdale as a worthy cause for our fundraising efforts as the school provides education to the children of the majority of the workforce in the area.
There are 970 children at the school and the classes are packed with up to 115 learners per classroom with four children per desk. Despite the learning conditions, it is one of the best performing schools in the area. The school has a number of needs. Some of the children come to school without breakfast and rely on the school feeding scheme. There are only seven toilets for the 970 children.
Once visiting the school, we discovered that they were in dire need of assistance and we identified the first need as a playground area for the grade R students. This initial project was completed in 2018 and handed over to the school to the absolute delight of both the children and teachers alike. Swings, Slides, Seesaws and soccer balls created huge smiles and laughter at the opening of an interactive play area for the Grade R’s.
We then identified the next immediate need as the development of an extra ablution block at the school. This project was completed in 2019 and we hope to be able to expand and develop further projects for the school in the near future.
Grant Langley runs course building for grooms. These courses demonstrate the basics of building a course and at the end participants have a clear idea of the basics and each groom takes away a manual in English and Zulu which provides an easy reference tool.
